I’ve finally decided to post this blog that I wrote in my planner/ journal last year, December 8. :)
___________________________________________________________

On my way to UST earlier, I accidentally glanced at my shoes. I surprisingly smiled with admiration. No sarcasm in there. My whole life as a student revolves in the things I have, especially those that I use for school. It always thrills me to just think of the new things [as corrected by DIANNE ENRIQUEZ] I must have for another school year. Me and my mom always argue about that. I want a totally new set of things.. new and expensive things.. since it’s already a new school year, it follows. Well, it does, at least for me.. right? Going back to my oh-so-admirable pair of shoes.. being a student in UST, I can say that I’m probably a pro in “flood-conquering” acts, but my shoes aren’t. Even my expensive and branded pairs of shoes [not to mention, stylish..] cannot survive the flood! I am now in my senior year that’s why I tried changing my perspective about purchasing expensive things. I gathered up enough courage to try a P100-worth pair of shoes made of rubber. I bought it at my university’s nearby overpass. Months have passed, and its incredibly still serving its purpose, withstanding floods, heat, dirt, etc.

I’ve come to realize that this thinking of mine also applies to the way of living most people have. I don’t deny the fact that I sometimes judge people by the way they dress, the way they look, by how much their possessions cost, and other judgments that in reality are very shallow. I guess that’s how it works. The society I live in dictates that it should. But honestly, for me, it’s ugly.. and sick.. and absurd. Sometimes poor [financially] people turn out to be better than rich people. A person’s real worth isn’t (and can never be) measured by the question “how much?”. I mean there are people striving to possess things that are “in” [meaning: latest].. even if those are beyond their means. This, again, is what society dictates them to have. Those people suck. What? Iphones, Ipads, BBs, branded stuffs.. will that be enough to make life worth-living for? If life doesn’t give these things to you then be satisfied and contented with what you have. If it does, then be thankful. Learn to appreciate but NEVER brag. You’re not Carlos Slim Helu [the 2011 world’s richest man according to my friend google]. But even Helu shouldn’t brag. For me, everything belongs to God. Nothing belongs to us, ALL IS GOD’S.

I AM RICH. I have a wonderful family, adorable brothers [sometimes. XD ], amazing friends, good health, a reputable school, countless learnings, opportunities and experiences in life.. THESE ARE ALL PRICELESS. Enjoy life as it is, invest on expensive things that will never depreciate and lose value.

Way to go for my pair of shoes! PLEASE STAY UNTIL I GRADUATE. :”>
